Frank Stokes, T'aint Nobody's Business
« on: September 23, 2015, 09:47:01 AM »
Inspired by Tom Feldmann's great new lesson, together with my recent purchase of a good fingerpicking guitar, I've made my first video of my stab at playing a song.  It isn't perfect, but it's the best I've done on anything so far.  Thanks to everyone here for the inspiring community.  If anyone has any pointers, let me know!

nicely done mole but the song deserves a better ending, even the original Stokes version has a rushed outro

Oddly enough, the MJH, Taj Mahal and Frank Stokes version all just end.  No outro, just end.  I agree, it deserves a better ending, but I can't find anyone who has recorded one.

Nicely done, mole!

Solid time and picking, and good vocals on top.  8)

Cheers

That might be a good weenie side project, coming up with a whizz-bang ending for T'ain't Nobody's Business. I have some ideas, but so little time.

Thanks Pan.  I've never been too happy with any singing before--this is the first time I've been able to keep the picking groove and sing at the same time.  And I agree about the ending, which was made worse by the fact that I still don't have that thumb drag down.  I thought about substituting a bass walk-down at the end, like for instance the way Elizabeth Cotten sometimes ends Freight Train, but I wanted to keep it as close to Stokes as I could.  If anyone comes up with a better ending, let us all know!

Duh, I got caught up in the idea of the ending, and forget to say "Great job!"

Yep.  Good solid job.  Vocals all in tune (and will loosen up with practice).

Once you nail playing and singing one, the next one is slightly easier and before you know it, you are away. :)

Really enjoyed this!  Great pulse with the thumb and the vocals really swing.  Looking forward to more vids!
