I ask that pawn shop man, "What's them three balls doin' hangin' on that wall?" (He) said, "It's two to one daddy, you don't get your things back out of here at all" - Blind Boy Fuller, Three Ball Blues

This is driving me nuts. It was taken long after Wheatstraw died and I'm sure it's one of the many "rediscoveries" of the 60s. Possibly Teddy Darby? Dunno but I'll worry away at this like a dog with the proverbial bone. Grrrrrr....

It's Shirley Griffith. Cropped and reversed. The original can be seen on page 92 of 1969 edition of Paul Oliver's Story Of The Blues. The photo next to it is of Wheastraw so some I guess some internet dumb arse has misread the caption and now misleading internet users. Grrrr again.

Yeah, I noticed that too....

I found this in the booklet included with the 4-Disc set "Century Of The Blues"

What a foolish mistake, thanks for the information!

And even worse, it wasn't on the internet, it was in a Great CD set's booklet!!

Hi all,
The photo in question was used for the front cover of Shirley's Prestige Bluesville album, "Saturday Blues".
All best,
Johnm
