Brownie McGhee ... says that after the gig all the important folk people came over and told him that he had to move to New York because "they didn't have any blues singers up there; that Josh White was the only one, and he'd gone white." McGhee laughingly adds that when he got to New York and met Josh, "when i saw how much money he was making, I said, 'Hey, show me how to go white too!''" - from Society Blues, Elijah Wale

Anne Graham & Leadbelly live on WNYC radio in 1941
« on: June 16, 2013, 06:32:33 PM »
Hi all

Looking for Anne Graham's music, I came across this 14 minute radio show from February 1941. I don't believe this was posted already?

Leadbelly does an expert job backing Anne Graham. His own songs are great too, especially the version of "Gallow's Pole".

This is fabulous! Thanks Pan!

Great find!

try mousing over the dates on the calendar to the right and you can see what else was recorded around that time. Like this one from Feb 12th with Lead Belly, Albert Ammons, Sam Price and the Golden Gate Singers (Quartet?)
