Couldn't find any other dedicated threads for this outfit. Along with William & Versey Smith and Blind Roosevelt Graves & Brother in the Holy Trinity of guitar/tambourine family bands. Below is a first start for Down On Me. Three of the verses aren't all that clear to me. Hopefully the carrotted parts don't make it harder to hear what is actually there.
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
If I could I surely would Stand on the rock where Moses stood Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
I ain?t been to heaven but I?ve been told streets are silver and the gates are gold Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
< . . . Bible . . . said > Got nowhere to lie my head Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
<I ain't a been preachin' the Baptist song Christ was stating the time ain?t long> Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
<I ain't a been preachin' the Baptist song Christ was stating the time ain?t long> Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
< Lord, I'm . . . > Steal my body but not my soul Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Went to the cemetery the other day Looked in the grave and saw my mother Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
If I could I surely would Stand on the rock where Moses stood Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Down on me Down on me Seems like everybody in the whole round world is down on me
Will try to post an mp3 later--there doesn't seem to be a YouTube version to link.

As for the missing lyrics, in the third verse I hear "In The Bible Moses said..." and the sixth verse sounds like "Lord I'm troubled in this world...:.
Fixed--it's hard to read anything on a cell phone, besides I didn't want to read Eddie Head--I think that is the name of the Iron Maiden mascot or close enough.

I changed the first verse to "traveling high mountains." Traveling is much better than what I was hearing.
I'll have to load the song in a slow downer, there didnt seem to be enough syllables to make room for "-ness and" but I'm probably losing it in the multiple voices.
Now that I count it better it is the same number if syllables either way. It is hard to tell for the most part but one repetition of the line they are clearly singing sickness and sorrow. I'll change that as well.

I'm new to this site, so I hope I'm putting my opinion here in the proper place. In the verse above that begins <Lord, I'm...> and ends with "Steal my body..." I would suggest the following traditional and widely used couplet: Jordan River, chilly and cold, Chill my body but not my soul.
I'll continue to listen to the other unclear verses here till I find what they might be. Thanks for this thread. LOVE THESE SONGS AND SINGERS!

Hi Morgan, Welcome to Weenie Campbell! You are indeed in the right place to post what you have posted thus far, and thanks for the reminder of how great these recordings by Eddie Head and his family are. All best, Johnm
Hi all, I thought I'd try to get Eddie Head and his family's version of "Tryin' To Get Home" worked out. He accompanied it out of C position in standard tuning. It sounds as though the other members of his family are two women. I show the response lines of one of the women in parentheses. Here is their recording of the song:
I been a-travelin' on a mountain, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) I've been a-travelin' on a mountain, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) I've been a-travelin' on a mountain, just been travelin' high mountain Been a-travelin' high mountain, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home)
I'm gonna walk and talk with the angels, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna walk and talk with the angels, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna walk and talk with the angels, walk and talk with the angels Gonna walk and talk with the angels, when I get home (when I get home)
I'm gonna meet my loving mother, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna meet my loving mother, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna meet my loving mother, gonna meet my loving mother Gonna meet my loving mother when I get home (when I get home)
Oh, my road is rough and rocky, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) Oh, my road is rough and rocky, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) Oh, my road is rough and rocky, my road is rough and rocky My road is rough and rocky, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home)
I've been a-wading through deep water, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) I've been a-wading through deep water, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home) I've been a-wading through deep water, wading through deep water Been a-wading through deep water, tryin' to get home (tryin' to get home)
I'm gonna walk on the sea of glass, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna walk on the sea of glass, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna walk on the sea of glass, walk on the sea of glass Gonna walk on the sea of glass, when I get home (when I get home)

I'm gonna meet my loving mother, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna meet my loving mother, when I get home (when I get home) I'm gonna meet my loving mother, gonna meet my loving mother Gonna meet my loving mother when I get home (when I get home)

Hi all, The fourth title recorded by Eddie Head & His Family was "Within My Mind". The guitarist on the track plays out of C position in standard tuning sounding at D, so either capoed at the second fret if tuned to standard tuning, or possibly tuned high. All four numbers recorded by the family were backed out of the same playing position. Here is "Within My Mind":
REFRAIN: Within my mind, within my mind I will overcome some day Within my mind, within my mind I will overcome some day
I do believe (I do believe) I do believe (I do believe) I will overcome some day I do believe, I do believe I will overcome some day
Father's gone (Father's gone), Father's gone (Father's gone) I will overcome some day Father's gone, Father's gone, I will overcome some day
If I pray right (if I pray right) if I pray right (if I pray right) I will overcome some day If I pray right, if I pray right I will overcome someday
I do believe (I do believe) I do believe (I do believe) I will overcome some day I do believe, I do believe I will overcome some day
If I live right (if I live right) If I live right (if I live right) I will overcome some day If I live right, If I live right I will overcome some day
I do believe, (I do believe) I do believe (I do believe) I will overcome some day I do believe, I do believe I will overcome some day
Mother's gone (Mother's gone) Mother's gone (Mother's gone) I will overcome some day Mother's gone, Mother's gone I will overcome some day
Father's gone (Father's gone) Father's gone (Father's gone) I will overcome some day Father's gone, Father's gone I will overcome some day
REFRAIN: Within my mind (within my mind) within my mind (within my mind) I will overcome some day Within my mind, within my mind I will overcome some day
All best, Johnm
