Among this pack of cranks, where nuts are not only tolerated, but a welcome part of the social landscape, (78 collector) Bussard is the odd man out of the oddballs: an unschooled and profane "pure cracker" (in the words of a fellow collector) among a bunch of mostly urbane Northerners - Joe Bussard, story by Eddie Dean, washingtoncitypaper.com

Hello, I am getting to the end of subtitling this movie, it is gonna be shown in Marseille in one week and a half in a theater with french subtitles, but re-reading it I have a little doubt about something.

In the song that goes :

Gonna eat when I'm hungry
Gonna drink when I'm dry
If I get to feeling much better
Gonna sprout wings and fly

I'm having troubles getting the exact meaning of "get to feeling much better". Does it mean he is sick or something ? Looking into google I found only this expression in phrases said to sick people like "Hope you get to feeling better." or something like this. Could anybody enlighten me on the subtlety of this expression ? Thank you all.

It?s hard to be sure without the context of the full song. It most likely means exactly what you suggest. If however the rest of the song implies that he?s not sick, but is already feeling good, then the line would imply that he just needs to feel a little better to feel all-powerful (or something)...

Hi dryad,
I think the implication of the line is that he is high, from corn whiskey, and feeling so good already that if he felt any better he would sprout wings and fly.  He is in a state of optimal drunkenness.
All best,
Johnm
