Blues Fiddle Summer 2010
« on: February 07, 2010, 09:36:09 AM »
Hi folks,
Heads up to you blues fiddlers or wannabe blues fiddlers - I'm going to be teaching pre-war blues fiddle at 2 camps next summer. I'll be at Swannanoa (in Asheville, North Carolina) during their Fiddle Week (July 4-10) and at Centrum's Blues Week (Aug. 1-8) .  Some of the other fiddlers who also will be teaching at Swannanoa's Fiddle Week include Matt Glaser (swing), Casey Driessen (bluegrass), Judy Hyman (old-time) and Adam Tanner (beginners).  Plus a whole lot of other amazing folks.  Info can be found here http://www.swangathering.com/Newsletter/sgnlcoming.html

At Centrum's Blues Week this year, for the first time there will be two fiddle teachers; I'll be teaching pre-war blues fiddle half the time (the other half I'm going to teach easy guitar accompaniment) --- the full time fiddle teacher will be Henrique Prince of the Ebony Hillbillies.  In addition to looking forward to jamming with him, I also look forward to hearing more about the African origins of black fiddle music in America, something I am just starting to learn about.  Henrique (like me) plays a lot of hillbilly music too, including some of my favorites (he has a beautiful version of Marcus Martin's Sugar In the Gourd on the Ebony Hillbillies myspace page.)

Anyone interested in finding out more, feel free to send me a message or post here.
