Sometime whithin the next few days I'm going to upgrade the Content Management (our "front end") part of the website and so the site may be down for a period of time while I do this.
So bookmark the Weenie Juke links so you'll have something soothing to listen too.?
Thanks, slack

I've upgraded the Forum software to the latest version and have taken the liberty to update the sites templates in an attempt to make the site brighter, lighter, cleaner and easier to read.
There are a few formatting problems here and there which I'll catch as catch can.
Thanks for your Patience and hope the new look appeals to you.
Thanks guys -- there are a few problems - but I've got the weekend coming up!
One problem, that must wait for a software revision, is with email notifications. The notification only gives a partial url instead of a full link back to the new topic or new reply posted.
Another problem is with the templates --- it looks like there is a mix of old and new templates, a bit ugly for now - but will get that straightened out.
Cheers, slack

I do seem to like the other (old) font better, it's "darker" somehow. But I do agree that the Forum is faster.
Some of the font size (ie. WeenieCampbell.com > The Unwound Third > Site Anouncements etc.) is now blury and almost too small to read. And I just got new glasses today!
But I love you still, Alex

I'm not beyond tweaking it --- part of the purpose of the makeover is to make it easier to read and to prepare for your old age... which looks like is rapidly approaching.
I'll see what I can do to make the text darker on already posted messages and to make the link line a little bigger.
I've noticed that the topics don't automatically get removed from the "unread messages" list when I back button to it, which means, I guess, it doesn't reload like it used to. (Safari in Mac OSX) Perhaps nothing is reloading like it used to, 'cause I think the Home page still showed I had messages when I back butttoned from my messages.
All for now. John C.

Hi Wax,
Yes, that is correct --- you'll have to keep track manually the upside of this -- is that after you post a reply and then back button -- you don't get the warning that someone (namely you) has posted to the thread.
Still in NJ actually, near Philly, for about 2 more weeks. Cleaning out the folks basement and trying to ease my Dad into some tough life decisions. Both of which are pretty emotional activities. Not to much opportunity to get online, as I have to drive down to the town library. Fortunately I can get on their Wyfi from the parking lot after their closed.-G-
Actually, the reason the Home page said I still had a message was because I had just received another. Reloaded fine after I replied.
Dinner with Ari on Wednesday and getting together with Ari and onewent next Sat. Will definitely be some McTell bein' played.-G-

If you hit the back button, then refresh/reload, the read topics do disappear.
Wax, I was thinking of you watching TV tonight. Just finished viewing the Wilds Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Very enjoyable film. About a San Fran dude taking care of a flock of 'wild' parrots.
Actually, I know one of the stars of the film, the blue faced parrot. He belonged to a friend who lives overlooking North Beach and trhe Parrots would often come to the trees outside his house. One day his parrot escaped and months later he saw the parrots and noticed his bird was with them. There are actually two flocks, the (mostly) Red-faced Parrots of the Presidio and North Beach, and a flock of White-winged Parrakeets in the Mission. Ya Gotta Love SF, even when you now live in Oakland.
Yeah, I knew I could refresh manually.
So, what happened to the Who's On button?

Haven't gotten that far yet. In the meantime you can still access Who's Online by clicking the link under "Users Online" at the bottom of the forum index page.

I like the upgrades. Well done. I even threw in some Japanese kanji in my reply to Pan and it came through on the post (using Unicode to view). I guess Weenie really is international.

Has the "Unread Posts" link under the "Forum" entry on the Main Menu been deleted on purpose? I normally use Firefox 1.5, and don't see it, even after closing and reopening my browser. Internet Explorer 6.0.2800 doesn't show it for me either.
Well, not on purpose - but as a result of upgrading the forum and the bridge, whcih links the forum to our content manager (more than you wanted to know). I'll add them back in -- and in fact, I think I'll add the "Who's On" as a link under the Forum menu item as well.
I've upgraded the bridge that ties the Joomla (our content manager) and SMF (our forum software) together. So keep your eye out for problems.
I've aslo modified a template to try and prevent the forum from pushing wider than your computer screen. This display problem would happen on the Forum Index page only -- so let me know if you see this again.
I've temporarily broken the Member Map -- but I'll get it back soon.
Coming up next and soon is a Mandatory Joomla upgrade (our website host insists as the security flaw could affect their entire server).
The only caveat I see from running the upgrade on the test website is that Members may have to log out and log back in in order for Joomla to see you as logged in. The test for this is - if you can see the "User Menu" -- you are logged into Joomla.
OK, I've upgraded Joomla - our content Management System. I recommend everyone log out and then log back in again, otherwise Joomla may not think you are logged in.
