I never had a man, black or white, kiss me dead on the mouth before, but that's what he done. He say 'Lord, man, you done 100 percent. I've been on this job 35 years and I never seen a man do what you done in 2 days' - Bukka White, on Lester Melrose's reaction to his having written 12 new songs, Chicago, March 1940

Roy Book Binder in Concert

I saw Roy last Saturday night at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland.  First off I've seen Roy 11 times including having him as a teacher at The Furpeace Ranch.

It was an early show with someone coming on after him so his show would be shorter.  Roy did very little talking and a whole lot of playing.  If you've ever seen him you'll understand what a surprise it was.  He really spread out on his songs using a lot of extra licks and just having a good time.  He played a bunch of songs that I've never heard him play before and he didn't play his standards like Rag Mama.

It was a great show.  I minidisked it and boy am I glad I did.
