Barbecue Any Old Time: Blues From The Pit 1927-1942
« on: October 03, 2011, 05:22:51 AM »
I picked up a new Old Hat Records release yesterday, Barbecue Any Old Time: Blues From The Pit 1927-1942

I've always been into bbq and I just got a charcoal grill and a ton of recipes and advice so this is a timely and relevant release, all those barbecue songs in one place.

The cover is weird, Barbecue Bob Hicks's famous photo has been photoshopped into another image, I did a double take when I saw it. Haven't listened to it yet but Old Hat usually do a good job.

1. Frankie 'Half Pint' Jaxon - Down At Jasper's Bar-B-Que
2. Big Boy Teddy Edwards - Who Did You Give My Barbecue To? Part 1
3. Memphis Minnie - Pig Meat On The Line
4. The Two Charlies - Pork Chop Blues
5. Mississippi Jook Band - Barbecue Bust
6. Blind Boy Fuller - I Crave My Pig Meat
7. Barbecue Bob - Barbecue Blues
8. Charlie Campbell And His Red Peppers - Pepper Sauce Mama
9. Georgia White - Pigmeat Blues
10. Frankie 'Half Pint' Jaxon - Gimme A Pig's Foot And A Bottle Of Beer

It's a remote possibility that not all of those songs are actually about the delights of alfresco meat eating.

Sexual double entendres in the blues?  C'mon.  Get real.

Barbecue Bob Hicks.  The first rock and roller.

There are some instrumentals in there so who knows. I enjoyed cutting code to it today while listening on the iPod. Most if not quite all I have on other discs but it's nice to have them grouped on another Old Hat country blues concept album.

Noise reduction is tangible, I've heard worse but some may not approve.
