I thought, 'I'm gonna get me up a one man band.' ... I decided I'd get into it and might make me some money. I didn't know, I thought I might get lucky enough to get something out of it. If I didn't, I'd just be the same old Jesse. I wouldn't cry about it. I figured I was gonna live till I die anyway - Jesse Fuller

Jimmy Borsdorf benefits
« on: October 10, 2004, 09:22:43 PM »
Hi there, Suzy Thompson here (finally!). I  know there's some other folks here who know Jimmy from past years at Port Townsend Blues week, or maybe from other places.  Jimmy has been (and is still) battling cancer.-- if you have friends in the Chico or Sacramento area, please let them know about these shows!  I called Jimmy and Nancy last week and they really appreciate phone calls, so if you know them and feel like it, give 'em a call!
CHICO

When: Thursday, October 14th (Doors open at 7:30 PM)

Where: Chico Women's Club (Corner of 3rd Street and Pine)

Who: An All-Star Line -Up including:

Wings of Swing: Gordy Olhiger, and Pamela Cather lead this outstanding swing
quartet. "1930's jazz, like a Fred Astair Movie."

Poor Taste:  No, that's not a misprint. Poor Taste, the Cabaret Trio, Dog
and Pony Show that spawned the spin off duo, Poor Aftertaste will resurrect
its wildly popular review for this special night.

Hawks and Eagles: A name synonymous with the finest in the folk music
tradition for over 25 years. Jimmy and Nancy's Cowboy-Gypsy music will amaze
and delight you. They will be joined by multi-instrumentalist and former
sideman, Chris Loizeaux.

1.        Johnnie's Eagles: Jimmy and Nancy are joined by local musical
"ijohnoclasts" John Lapado and John Glick for a folk fusion worth the price
of admission all by itself.

Special Guests and other surprises are sure to make this a night to
remember.

Tickets: $15.00 are available at Pullins Cyclery & Melody Records in Chico
and Houser's Music in Oroville
For more information call 896-0817.

Sponsored by Folk Musicians for Truth (or a reasonable facsimile thereof)

SACRAMENTO BENEFIT:

When: Saturday, Nov 6, (Show starts 8 PM)

Where: Fox 'N Goose Pub (10th and R St in Sacramento)

Who: An All-Star Line up-Hawks and Eagles (including Joe Craven)
Are hosting a reunion of former band members and friends
Jimmy and Nancy learned their trade there and developed
what is now known as "Cowboy Gypsy Music".

The show will be in the tradition of the Grand Ole Opry, featuring the many
faces of Hawks & Eagles from Old Time String Band and Western Swing to
Hungarian Gypsy music and Celtic Dance tunes. Add to that the political
broadsides Jimmy is known to croon and an assortment of ethnic jewels and
you have a folk festival packed into a dynamic duo.  The concert will be
featuring some good old friends in music and some former band mates.

JOE CRAVEN WILL HEADLINE, Also

John Green and the Bluegrass Hurricanes

Bodie Wagner, the singing Hobo and Yodeling Master.

Justin Bishop, the Cowboy song expert.

Chris Loizeaux, original guitarist, who played with the band in 1977-78.
Chris is a master at swinging cowboy music.

Rita Brandes, pianist extraordinaire, fiddler and
Blues Shouter toured with Hawks & Eagles throughout the West in 1978-79.

Bob Cound, old friend, has played with Hawks & Eagles many times over the
years, most notably their Reno period where they spread the Gospel of
Traditional Country music in the rarified air of the Pop sound of slick
country music.

The MC of this traditional Opry type show is respected DJ, Bill Wagman, who
also has played with Hawks & Eagles.  Since dozens of musicians once played
with Hawks & Eagles, there is a chance of special appearances.

Old Time humor and traditional music... everything from wild Gypsy Aires to
cool Irish slip jigs.

All proceeds go to the Friends Of Jimmy Borsdorf fund to help with the
mounting bills Jimmy has accumulated in his battle with cancer.  He has just
returned home from a week in the hospital after suffering a blood clot,
pulmonary embolism and pneumonia.

Minimum cover charge of $5.00 but the suggested price is whatever you can
afford.

For more information call Jimmy at: 530-534-8434.
We'll try to answer all calls.

If you can make a donation to Jimmy's fund, please make check payable to
Delilah Lewis and mail to her at
151Precita Ave,
San Francisco, CA
94110.
