The artist that you're listening to or are in love with, they were usually listening to three or four people within the framework of the style they were in. What you're essentially tryin' to do is play every giant of country blues's music as well as them, every song, in every style. Impossible! Give it up! - Jerry Ricks, Port Townsend 97

Send Students to PT Blues
« on: July 06, 2017, 01:55:59 PM »

Hello Friends!

I have been working for four years now to get more young people of color in attendance at the Pt Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival. The Centrum Foundation (who hosts the event) has given us scholarships for 4 promising young musicians this year (hear one of them in the video above), but we need to raise money for their room and board. We also need to cover room and board for two chaperones. Anything you can chip in really helps! Our goal is to make this a regular program, and bring at least 10 students to the week-long event each year in the future. Thus, if we surpass our goal we'll have seed money for next year's program. Select "Blues Rhapsody Project Fund" on the drop-down menu here:

And please share this link in your networks/mailing lists if possible!

I think anyone can recognize that the lack of participation in the tradition stems more from ignorance about it than anything, and so our goal is to take talented young musicians and let them know that this music exists--and that masterful young players are expanding the tradition to this day.

Thank you so much for helping us out!
