Hi Forum,

I play five feet seven from the Broonzy version, but I'm not comfortable singing the words. The other day I heard an old bluesman playing the same music with different words. I don't know who it was, but it was cool and I'd like to find out.  Can anyone list any other songs that use the same music as five feet seven.

I think it is very similar to Black Rat Swing by Memphis Minnie but sung by her partner Kansas Joe. Check that version out. It was later covered by a ton of other blues players usually under the title of One Black Rat. I think that might be the tune that you are looking for.

Perhaps it was Arthur Crudup you heard?


John Lee Hooker did a version too...
