Those "Blues Breaks" that Robert Mugge and I made for "Year of the Blues" are on youtube now. Mississippi Public Broadcasting sponsored them but they also were shown on many other public TV stations. One-minute films before and after the long Scorsese features. Here's the first one; you can find the rest by searching on "Mugge" or "Cheseborough" on youtube. Enjoy! SC

I was fortunate enough to meet and 'jam' with Carl Martin in a hotel room in Toronto in either 1970 or 71. Martin Bogan and Armstrong were playing the Mariposa Folk Festival at the time. He played mandolin exclusively, and it was mostly ragtimey/vaudeville type tunes that he played,as well as things like Old Joe Clark. To my eternal shame I didn't have the gumption,at the time, to identify him as the same Carl Martin who'd recorded in the thirties. I remember I was struggling to learn his version of Crow Jane at the time, laboriously lifting the tone arm and repeating the grooves containing the second chord in the piece. And there he was, in the flesh, sitting next to me on a bed in a hotel room! Aah well, life is full of missed opportunities...
Did the Even Dozen ever actually perform? I thought it was just a studio one-off.

You are probably right Alex -- it looks in such great condition that I thought it had to be a later model and guessed 50's without following the specs.
Hey thanks. You are right about that site. Wow what a collection. Hey that guy is a pretty good picker too. I listened to some of his CD cuts. Very good stuff.
