Mance Lipscomb tape!
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:40:26 AM »
In a program originally recorded in May of 1963, Rolf Cahn and Phil Huffman talk to Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb, about his life and music. He describes growing up as a Baptist in the South, the balance between singing and playing music, as well as the origins of many of his best known songs. Throughout the discussion, Lipscomb performs a number of both, famous and obscure, acoustic blues songs, often responding to requests by Huffman and Cahn, who sound as pleased as two cats in a fish pond to be there for their own private concert by this extraordinary talent.
Part 1 of 2:
Musical Selections:  Run Sinner, Run -- Motherless Children -- God Moves on the Water / Blind Willie Johnson -- ?Bout a Spoonful -- Rock Me Mama -- Night Time is the Right Time -- Buck Dance -- So Different Blues
Part 2 of 2:
Musical Selections:  I Wonder Why [?] -- Short Haired Woman / Lightnin? Hopkins -- Alabama Jubilee -- Baby Please Don?t Go -- Late Night Blues

this tape is really amazing in terms of musical content and audio quality .. Mance play more than he talk!
Total duration 51'07"
Format is streaming but can easily be downloaded and burn on CD.

Thanks for the heads up!  I love Mance's playing, and especially enjoyed his Buck Rag on this recording (approximately 29 minutes into the first section).

Question, though...I didn't see anywhere to save the file.  Am I missing it?

For download you have to install realplayer downloader (a free version is available)  and then you'll obtain mp3 you can burn on CD.

Thanks for the link, Eric. It's always good to listen to Mance.

Another way to record it, if you're an IE or Firefox user, is to install Freecorder and then click on the "Record Audio" button right before you start the stream. After the program is finished, you can then save the file(s). From there you can import it/them into your music player's library (I use iTunes) and then burn the program to a CD if you want.

I stumbled on this a few months ago when only the first section was up and I dropped them a line wondering if they would do the second...they said they would get to it soon...glad to see they did.  Mance is the MAN!
