I'm still hoping to make it...but a few domestic arrangements need sorting out first - namely whether or not the Scratchy family may be in sunny climes then....or whether we'll be back. Will keep you posted. Honest.
Just returned from my venture into the New Forest on a beer testing run - it passed.
Saw Bob Long today and he has agreed to give a short presentation to the gathering based on his frequent visits to Mississippi ( I'm assured it will not be a graveyard tour). He'll also try to bring along some Dave King and National Resophonic guitars for us to sample. He is also i/c restaurant booking as he lives in Lyndhurst. For anyone coming on the Friday we are planning to book the Golden Dragon Chinese for around 7.00pm so please check in here if you want to join us.
Ian McWee of Diamond Bottlenecks fame is also threatening to descend on the Saturday, no doubt with samples of his wares.
Blueshome, please make room for two more at the Chinese! Plus a request for suitable background music - maybe some guzheng, an instrument I think Washington Phillips would have been quite at home on...
Don't know why Blueshome thinks the Chinese is the "Golden Dragon" (sic). We Lyndhurst folk call it "Imperial China". If I'm booking, I'll need to know numbers......
As mentioned in my previous post, I'd been on a beer testing expidition. It was good. Seriously we are up to about 10 on the Friday, I will check up on a couple more invitees and then we can pass the final number to Mr.Bob.
Already in the programme for Saturday - a short illustrated talk by Bob Long based on his adventures in Mississippi; Marshcat has agreed to do a workshop on slide guitar; the Prof has offered a workshop on Bo Carter. That seems enough to fill the gaps between socialising and playing.
Natterjack is joining us for the Friday only and so we look forward to hearing him play then on a couple of the wonderful guitars from his collection.
A rough programme will be issued on the Friday following further off-board discussion with euroweeniemeister Richard.
Let me say that it is very cool that you UK guys are continuing and growing this little Weenie tradition. Not sure if Alex or anyone else can make it from across the pond this year - but I sure hope and plan a future year myself. Good work fellars, sounds like a ton of fun!
