"I'm Wild About Moonshine"
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:44:53 PM »

Ok friends--I REALLY need your help on this one. Have made a few passes through it playing the youtube video at half speed, but the recording quality is so poor that it's just a devil of a time hearing what they're saying. But wow--what an incredible song!

"I'm Wild About Moonshine"
As performed by the Southern Negro Quartette

Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like laaahh.

Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like laaahh.

Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like
Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like
Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like laaaah.

The day I met the melancholy girl named Susy Anna, smoother than a brick
She seemed as bright cheerful as flowers in May.

I love the [bright sunshine?] and raindrops that fall
But Shine you never could surmise what I love best of all.
[?   ?   ?_____________ alcohol?]

I?ve gone wild. I?m wild about moonshine,
I?m crazy ?bout moonshine.
I mean a little spoony?just a loony.
I?ve gone wild from yearning night and day.
And I feel like fighting when the moon is shining
So far away.

Met a girl who was really the best in the bunch
[  ?   ?   ? ]

Let 'em all get juiced until they're satisfied

Let your conscience be your guide.

I?ve gone wild. I?m wild about moonshine,
Moonshine has made a wild wild woman of me.
Oh me oh me oh me.

I?ve gone wild. I?m wild about moonshine,
I?m crazy ?bout moonshine?
I mean a little liquor?that has the sticker.

I?ve gone wild from yearning night and day.
And I feel that quiver of the rolling river - fading away.

And when I die
   (And when I die)
Don?t bury me at all
   (Don?t bury me at all)
Just pickle my bones
   (Just pickle my bones)
In alcohol.
   (In alcohol.)

With a bottle of booze,
   (With a bottle of booze,)
and the [rain and sea]
   (and the [rain and sea])

So I will know,
   (So I will know,)
that I will be
   (that I will be)

   [You give em ________ ?]
Let ?em stay for a week and you will learn the joy
Of the people at [the deck?]
   Wow! Oh boy.

I?ve gone wild. I?m wild about moonshine,
Moonshine has made a wild wild woman of me.

Bah bah bah bah,
Like like like laaahh.

I?ve gone wild. I?m wild about moonshine,
Moonshine has made a wild wild woman of me.
Of . . . me.

Of course, I also welcome any and all information you can dig up about this stellar group of singers--I'm wild about everything they recorded.

I got this far:

The day I met the melancholy girl named Susy Anna, smoother than a brick
She seemed as bright cheerful as flowers in May

This is a difficult one to hear correctly, and I'll give it another go when I can plug my speakers in and not my headphones.

She looked like a horse eating an apple through a wire fence.

Hi Joe,
I think the one line is "Let your conscience be your guide".
All best,

I would add and supplement with this:

She seemed as bright and cheerful as flowers in May.

...raised up and called   ... This could be I love the (bright sunshine?) and raindrops that fall
But Shine you never could surmise what I love best of all.

Let 'em all get juiced until they're satisfied

and I feel that quiver of the roving or rolling river fading away

The rest is too difficult to discern, but I think rain and sea is correct.

Thanks to each of you for helping me get closer on this one! I have updated the original post to reflect your suggestions.

DaveK, I couldn't see where in the song you heard these lyrics:

I love the (bright sunshine?) and raindrops that fall
But Shine you never could surmise what I love best of all.

Do you hear that after the first chorus?

Those lines are instead of where you have :

"She said I love the best of wine, raised up and called
[?   ?   ?_____________ alcohol?]"

So where you hear "raised up and called", I hear "raindrops that fall", and then the next line I hear "But Shine..." etc
