Rare 20's side from Lazy Eye James
« on: October 21, 2019, 12:34:58 PM »
My mate Cameron was recently doing some digging and found this weird blues LP with no cover at a pawn shop with different paramount artists on it and seemingly some test recordings with obscure artists I had never heard of before, most are obscure jazz cats but there's this Alost Blues by Lazy Eye James I had never heard it before and thought it would be of some interest here. There was also small pictures included with LP including the famous Ma Rainey picture a few jazz bands and this picture of Lazy Eye James  :D

The singing doesn't sound like a '20s artist at all--more like a present-day recording doctored to sound old.  Guitar solo doesn't sound of the decade either.  You wouldn't be putting us on, would you, Thomas?
All best,
Johnm

Thomas,

Nice try, but even to someone who lacks John's deep musicological knowledge, it's very obvious that the music and the surface noise on that recording are from completely different sources. And when I did a Google image search for "African American Man 1920s" just now, the very first picture that came up was that photo you posted, from this Pinterest page:

Are you sure that's Chucklin' Barry? To me, he looks more like "Silent Cal." ;)

Obviously a fake. Everyone knows the 2020's don't arrive for another 2+ months. Gives a new meaning to "Future Blues."
