I was just listening to a Memphis Minnie CD and the tune "me and my Chauffer sp?"  was playing...

All of a sudden it hit me..!!

Hey!! That's Muddy Waters tune, Good Morning, Little Schoolgirl....!!

wow... one more for the "learn something new every day" routine

Sonny Boy Williamson #1 recorded the original Good Morning, Schoolgirl in 1937... sorry to be such a pedant... good point though nonetheless. I hadn't made the connection. Minnie recorded Me & My Chauffeur in '41 so she was likely to have been influenced by Sonny Boy, if she was influenced.

Fuller lifted this a couple of times as well:  "Bus Rider Blues" (1940) and another I'm drawing a blank on (maybe "Flying Airplane Blues," 1938?).  Perhaps his record is what reminded Minnie of the tune.

Dylan knocked it off for "Obviously 5 Believers" in the Blonde on Blonde days.

SBW was May 1937. Estes recorded Airplane Blues in August 1937 and Fuller Flying Airplane (virually the same song) in Oct 1938. Back in the dark ages when Bob Groom ran a regular feature entitled Story Of A Blues (early 70s?) for Blues World magazine he came up with quite a lengthy list of Good Morning Little Schoolgirl lyric/tune usages even back then. I know that my set of the mag has suffered huge gaps (loaned and lost) but I'll see if it's in an issue still in my possession.
