The Guitar Stylists--Cross-Note Tuning
« on: March 05, 2021, 09:47:31 AM »
Hi all,
Here is the start of a list of guitar stylists in Cross-note tuning. Let's limit ourselves to one for post for this category, since there were fewer players who specialized in cross-note tuning and were original in their playing in it.

   * Booker White
   * Arthur Crudup

All best,
Johnm

I want to say Henry Townsend for cross-note, but I vaguely remember a discussion a long time back where someone pointed out that he played almost everything in cross-note in his early career, but then switched to mostly playing in the key of E in standard tuning.

Lindy

I'd like to add Skip James to this list.

Thanks lindy and Forgetful Jones, those are both perfect additions to the cross-note stylist list. Henry Townsend was definitely a major stylist in the tuning I think, Lindy, for his sound in both the left and picking hands is different from that of any of the other players who specialized in cross-note tuning. And Skip James, of course, is almost certainly the most famous stylist in cross-note tuning.
All best,
Johnm
