Hi all,
Here is "Bye Bye Blues", as performed by Mississippian Arzo Youngblood. It is certainly based on Tommy Johnson's song of the same title, going way back, but it's probably just as likely that Youngblood never heard Tommy Johnson's original version of the song, but picked it up from people who had heard Johnson's version. The song is played in E position in standard tuning, and I sure like Youngblood's way of doing it. I've always thought this song was mistitled--the sense is not a repeated farewell, but rather, is she going to do what he wants her to do, eventually, "by and by". Here is "Bye Bye Blues":
INTRO SOLO
Well, by and by, baby, by and by
Babe, by, by and, baby, won't you, by and by
Ahhh, by and by, um, baby won't you, by and by
Well now, two train runnin', runnin' side by side
Well, two, a-trains are, a-baby, runnin' side by side
Hey, you got my woman, man, man, you oughta be satisfied
Well now, my baby got way like, fox squirrel in the tree
My babe, got way like, a-baby, fox squirrel in the tree
Well, if she see me comin', and Lord, she run and hide from me
Well now, by and by, baby, by and by
Hey, by, and by and, a-baby, won't you, by and by?
Cryin' now, by and by, a-baby, won't you, by and by?
