Thought I would give the new board a spin and point out a couple articles currently available for downloading as PDFs on the Blues & Rhythm website.

The first is an appreciation of the substantial recording career of Big Joe Williams entitled "I'm a Highwayman" by Ray Templeton. Every time I listen to Big Joe, my own appreciation of him grows deeper. This article has added several CDs to my want list.

The other article is a survey of Texas prewar blues pianists called "Stomp the Grinder Down" by Michael Hortig, who sometimes posts here on the site. Information on obscure piano whuppers, of interest to a least one Weenie I know is a piano blues fan. This article is Part 1, with Part 2 devoted to postwar recordings.

I don't think either of these articles have been mentioned here before. B&R articles on the website change somewhat irregularly, so these aren't necessary there for long.

While I'm sure I'm not the one Weenie uncle bud was thinking of, I love stuff like this.  Thanks Mike for writing it, Blues & Rhythm for putting it up, and uncle bud for pointing it out.

Great stuff. The Browie McGhee FBI file is another eye opening example of the repressive ambitions of the American right, then & now.

There's a certain longevity in European blues magazine publishing thus:

France = Soul Bag 42 years

Sweden = Jefferson 42 years

Finland = Blues News 39 years

Holland = Block 36 years

Britain = Juke Blues 26 years

Britain = Blues & Rhythm 26 years

All of above have web sites some with downloadable material.

The first English language blues mag was Blues Unlimited, published 1963-1988

Having got that off my chest, let normal service continue.

Aaarghhhh it was reading of a German magazine in another thread here that must have caused that.
