Topic: Chris Berry Vestapol tuning guitar lesson

Hi everyone –  I taught an online lesson for the "virtual" 49th Annual Santa Barbara Old-Time Fiddler's Convention, held a couple of weekends ago. Thought some folks might be interested in it.

It's beginner-friendly and I teach two songs in open D/vestapol tuning: Emry Arthur's "Reuben Oh Reuben," played thumb-lead Carter Family style, and Bo Carter's "Sue Cow," played with thumb and two fingers. Some of this is very basic because I was trying to appeal to a broad range of guitar abilities.

Nice job, Chris, both with the teaching and the playing. It's always good to hear you play and sing. I like that you taught how to get into Vestapol from standard tuning without first resorting to the electronic tuner.

Hi Chris-
I never realized until just now that you are the same Chris that did the Cuckoo Bird banjo lesson on YouTube! In retrospect it makes sense now. You basically taught me how to play clawhammer banjo, as that was the first song I had ever attempted, based on your tutorial. And I played that song almost exclusively for about 6 months! Thanks
