Last week while playing a gig in North Carolina, I stopped by a favorite music store. There I found a 12 fret sound machine. This guitar rings with great overtones and the neck is fast as the dickens. Larrivee guitars are first rate anyway but this small L shaped body is much like a Martin 12 000. The top is nicely grained with mahogany one piece neck, and back and sides. Got quite a deal and if there is any problem with it is that it is loud. After having to push some guitars, I am finding that this one needs to be held back. A problem I can live with. It excels for fingerpicking.
I understand that these small body models were a short run and the 12 fret is rare. There are some 14 fret models but anyone who knows about the joys of the 12 fret sound may want to look for one of these guitars. It has moved other guitars to the back of the line.

Thanks for posting that. Nice looking guitar. Larriv?es are generally underrated. (I did get confused by the SL myself - couldn't find it anywhere. However problem solved now, thanks.)

I got a Larrivee myself (OM-01). It sounds fantastic and is my favorite guitar but found the playabillity a (little) more difficult than the others guitar I own. Does this count for your SL-03 too?

I have an OM-01 that I got for about $400 ten years ago new. It is a killer guitar and plays easy. I damaged my left index finger in high school and now, 45 years later I cannot bar some guitars. Both of my Larrivee play beautifully and sound great. I upgraded the saddle and end pins to bone, still need to to the nut on the LS-03. It sounded kind of tinny with TusQ and the bone mellowed it out nicely.
The OM-01 sounds great with a very dark yellow top. It lives in the studio where I teach and it is still Tusq but does not need any changes to it.

I changed the subject heading to for clarity's sake. Looks like a nice gitfiddle. How's the neck profile? I really like Larrivees but have found some of the necks too modern and slim, though certainly not all.

I had a Larriv?e Rosewood Parlor for several years and have now given it to my daughter's boyfriend, who uses it a lot.
I did try changing the plastic bridge pins for somewhat classier ebony ones, but it made the guitar sound incredibly dull. As soon as I replaced the plastic ones, the sound came back (very strange!).
The Larriv?e necks are wide enough, but very shallow, which I found took a while to get used to, but it was worth it in the end.

I mainly play the Larrivees or Gibson guitars and the neck profiles of both work for me. While not wanting a neck like a Les Paul, these guitars allow me to get around and are very similar to a Santa Cruz I sometimes play. If you try one you may like it. They are the best bang for the buck IMHO.
