Gus Cannon Banjo question

Any of you Weenies know what make/model banjo Gus Cannon played on the Jug Stomper's recordings?

I've seen one picture of him where it looked like he was playing a Fred Van Eps Recording model banjo.  I think they were made by Lyon & Healy.  They had an aluminum resonator in the back (between the dowel stick and the head) and the dowel stick was carved to account for the resonator.  The heads used for those banjos actually had a hole in them.  In this picture:



it's kinda hard to tell, but it looks like he might be holding Buckbee.  If you're just looking for a banjo to play Gus Cannon tunes on, I'd think any period open-back would do just fine.

My thoughts exactly, especially Buckbee, which he is clearly holding.

Er, who exactly is Buckbee? I was thinking maybe an invisible Chihuahua. Ah wait, I googled, a Buckbee banjo. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist it.  ;)

Thanks guys...just picked up a Lyon & Healy Professional, which I think will work just fine.
