When Woody Guthrie was singing hillbilly songs on a little Los Angeles radio station in the late 1930s he used to mail out a small mimeographed songbook to listeners who wanted the words to his songs. On the bottom of one page appeared the following: This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright #154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of our'n, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do - Pete Seeger, on Woody, June 67

Ernie will do a concert and workshop in Harrisburg, PA, for the Susquehanna Folk Music Society on February 12. Can't beat the price at $14 for the workshop! I'd investigate whether Ernie will be doing the CAGED thing he does sometimes at workshops, so you know what you getting into.

What on earth is the "CAGED thing" ? What, like that pay per view programming on cable TV, blood sports, etc?

:D

Exactly, it's that Thunderdome concept. Two workshop students tossed into a cage with National guitars. Whoever comes out alive wins.

I couldn't for the life of me explain the CAGED system, but yes there's stuff on the web somewhere...

Essentially, it's a way to use the chord forms C, A, G, E and D, or pieces of them, as moveable forms up the neck.
Pretty straight forward, actually.
All for now.
