Hi all,
The video in this post was just put up on YouTube today. It is "You Can't Hide", by Mother McCollum, whom I found out had one day in the studio for Vocalion in 1930. It's such a strong cut, and if she was accompanying herself, either as the backup guitarist playing chords and bass runs, or the slide guitarist playing in Vestapol, she was a ripping guitarist. I'd very much appreciate help with the last line of the last verse. I assume "Sacram'" is short of sacrament or sacramental. Here is "You Can't Hide":
INTRO
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
Well, gamblers, stop your gamblin',
And walk by Jesus' side
So when you see him comin',
You will have some place to hide
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
Well, listen, friends, let me tell you
Just what I'm trying to teach
Go say the word of Jesus,
Is a lamp unto your feet
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
We got some sisters, in the church,
They do just as they please
But in that Judgement morning,
They won't have no place and be
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Sacram' Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
REFRAIN: You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
You can't hide, in that Judgement Day
Well, you better get ready now
