Val Mindel, founding member of the West Coast-based Any Old Time String Band, and her daughter, Emily Miller, of the Brooklyn-based Sweetback Sisters and Northern Harmony, will conduct a unique VOCAL HARMONY CLASS in New York's Flatiron District on Saturday, March 3,
2007, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Val Mindel and Emily Miller are versatile singers, instrumentalists, and teachers. Their CD, "In the Valley," was released in 2006. They have taught vocal harmony at music camps and workshops around the US and abroad. In their workshops, Val and Emily focus on small-group
singing with an emphasis on the mechanics of creating harmonies and arrangements in the traditions of early American country, bluegrass and honky-tonk.
In addition to working on the basics of chord-based harmony (including that elusive third part!) this day-long workshop will take you through several must-know duets and trios from 1930s, '40s and '50s. You'll be breaking up into small groups to work on songs over the course of the
day so some experience with part singing would be helpful.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 20 participants. The workshop will be conducted on SATURDAY, MARCH 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $75.
