That Moaning Saxophone Rag
(1/1)
Montgomery:
Here's a pretty rough version of That Moaning Saxophone Rag by Six Brown Brothers, which I learned from a 78.? It ends prematurely because of a broken string.? Usually I don't do nearly this much string snapping, but for some reason that's how I play when I get in front of a microphone
P.S. The original was recorded in 1914 by Six Brown Brothers, an all-saxophone group.? You can get a CD here:

There's also a new book about them but I haven't read it.
Slack:
Nice job and adaptation Monty, you should record it without the broken string!... although that giant (((Bong))) ending does have some appeal. ;)
The web page you site also has a 30 second clip of the original.
cheers,
slack
uncle bud:
Sounds good, Montgomery, tricky stuff. Some of it reminds me a little of Rev. Gary Davis's approach to orchestration on six strings when he plays those marches. Had never heard of Six Brown Brothers.
Johnm:
Nice job on the Rag, Aaron. It's great to hear guitar arrangements that are not based on guitar models. Way to go!
All best,
Johnm
