Hi Blues Vintage: Thanks for the post. I don't know if I would use "indiscriminately." Perhaps the two takes, although different, were considered to be of equal value with respect to releasing them as commercial recordings with potential sales in mind. Ramblin' On My Mind
There’s some controversy which takes of Ramblin' On My Mind are take 1 and take 2.
According to “official data” this is take 2 issued as the master take, not the alternate take on The Complete Recordings (2011, Stephen LaVere).
Stefan Wirz has it listed as Take 1.
To make it even more confusing,
Note also that although we accepted the view of specialist Robert Johnson discographers that most of the takes originally issued were used indiscriminately on all the 78 RPM issues, and have no definite evidence to the contrary, our considered judgement is that this is unlikely to be the case (Blues and Gospel Records).

Big Maceo recorded "Bye, Bye, Baby" in Chicago on December 14, 1941, backed by Tampa Red and an almost inaudible Alfred Elkins on imitation bass, accompanying himself on piano in B flat. Here is "Bye, Bye, Baby":

BTW, the Jackson Fire Marshal finally confirmed that the house fire was not electrical. The local PD were unavailable for comment on a connection between the two events.

Hi all,
Big Maceo recorded "My Last Go Round" at a session in Chicago on July 28, 1942, accompanied by Tampa Red playing slide (sparingly) in Vestapol and Clifford Jones on drums. Maceo played the piano in G. For some reason, the record was not originally issued by Bluebird and was first released in the re-issue era. Maybe it was because Maceo sang different endings to a couple of the second lines of his verses--there are no obvious glitches apart from that. Here is "My Last Go Round":
