I started a guitar school. It was called Home of the Blues, on 125th Street in New York. I did that for five, six years and had a lot of students - Brownie McGhee
Picked up Peter Rowan & Tony Rice Quartet CD in a 2nd hand bin(!) the other day, w/Sharon Gilchrist on mando and Bryn Davis on bass. I met, actually jammed with these gals at Old Settlers festival near Austin two years ago, they are neat people and amazing musicians. Being very cute doesn't hurt either. At least I think it was them, it was 2AM on Sunday morning in the Bamboozle tiki hut and let me tell you the joint was jumpin'.
Pretty spectacular little record if you dig Rowan and Rice. The album cover is well worth posting:
since I've got a group of players interested in forming a Western Swing band (as if a Rockabilly band wasn't crazy enough) I've been listening to a lot of western swing, oddly enough.
Bob Wills - the Tiffany Series (1 through 10) Swinging Hollywood Hillbilly Cowboys (4 cd compilation) Doughboys, Playboys and Cowboys: The Golden Years of Western Swing (4cd)
Here's my #1 favorite dance band in the known universe, if you haven't heard them already, do buy their CD and visit them if they're ever in your hometown:
(they're very generous with their sample cuts on their website)
Almost forgot to mention--Dave, the lead guitarist, is in great demand, and when he can't make a Burly Roughnecks gig, the band usually calls a dude named Orville Johnson to fill in.

Slack, you should have these three hard-to-find Merle Travis CDs released on Brit label Country Routes:
Hoedown Shows & Films, Country Routes RFD CD 14 Boogie Woogie Cowboy 1944 - 1956, Country Routes RFD CD 29 Turn Your Radio On, Unheard Radio Broadcasts 1944 - 1965, Country Routes RFD CD 20
...lest we forget Western Swing's great exponent from Kentucky. And you can never have too much Travis.
