This is Roscoe Holcomb, and the title of this song is the Stingy Woman Blues. I made it myself - Roscoe Holcomb on Mountain Music of Kentucky

What is meant by "Alabama Bound" ?
« on: December 05, 2022, 07:13:55 AM »
I've heard this phrase in so many songs and song titles and wondered what it represents.  It doesn't seem in most cases that Alabama is the destination, but seems to be referring to something other than just going to the state.

It could well be it was a borrowed lyric used by many that rhymes with something else, such as "Wild geese in the West" and really has no indirect meaning.

If I recall, it was Peter Koerner, younger brother of "Spider" John Koerner who provided the explanation on the University Of Detroit FM station (the only one in radio range that played folk and old blues stuff at the time).  He told the program host that "I'm Alabama Bound" meant, basically, "I'm outta here!"

Peter used to gig at the Raven Gallery in Birmingham and, I think, went to Oakland University, my old alma mater, for a time.  Wonder what ever happened to him.  Good singer and guitarist.
