My new Fraulini Erma arrived....
« on: March 02, 2010, 02:27:52 PM »
And I'm delighted with it.  The punch and separation in the bass is fantastic, and perfect for those rags and blakey things.  I was going to record Too Tight Blues No.2 to show it off, bu am not yet happy with how I play it.  So instead, heres Jailhouse Blues, squashed down horribly to fit in a low grade mp3, but hopefully enough to give a good idea of how wonderful the guitar sounds.

Pictures are courtesy of Todd before it was dispatched.

The Erma has an adirondack top, and white oak back and sides (which, as you can see, are truly beautiful).  The neck is to my specifications- wide and fairly deep with a v profile.  It seems almost impossible to get a factory built guitar these days with anything other than a slim electric style c-shape neck which I find much harder work to play. The neck is made of poplar (of all things) so its one of the greenest guitars I can imagine.  No tropical woods bar the fretboard.

Anyone in the market for a 1953 Martin 00-17?!  I think the Erma is going to make it redundant for me.

Just in time for Euroweenie!

Can't wait to hear it in the flesh.

Congratulations, Slim, the guitar looks and sounds like a real beauty.  I look forward to hearing you play it this summer at Blues Week.
All best,

You're a lucky boy, Simon. Also looking forward to seeing and hearing her at the Euroweenie Jamboree.

Congrats!  Another Fraulini beauty!  She looks and sounds great.  Love the oak back and sides...  May you enjoy many years of happy blues playing.

Congratulations! That's a beauty. I got my own Erma from Todd a while back -- looks a lot like your Erma except I went for the slightly fancier fret markers. I love the oak, too!

That looks and sounds fantastic!
I just had a look at the Fraulini website. Now I need to figure out what I can sell - a kidney maybe?  ::)
P.S. I like a nice deep V neck myself, it kind of supports the hand or something. Whatever it does, it's way more comfortable than those extra slim ones that modern guitars seem to usually have.

I should make it clear that even if I get through the selection day in April (I am happy to say I passed the initial exam in January, but the next stage is by no means a formality...)  then I will be only a lowly deputy district judge.  No wigs, no open court, no red gowns, no rumpole-ish stuff.  Just sitting in a quiet room once or twice a month dealing with small claims, house repossessions and procedural stuff on bigger cases before they get to court.

I dont think I will have the power to imprison people for overuse of the 12 bar shuffle, so we should all be okay for Lymington!

Phew!

But you could imprison people without trial for playing the b***o, I assume.  >:D

I may bring my banjo- and am currently tempted by a 6 stringer....

I wonder if I could grant injunctions against badly played harp though?

Papa Charlie- is why I'd like a 6 stringer  :D

But Mrs Slim may well perform surgical procedures in sensitive areas, with a rusty potato peeler, if I buyanything else at present....
