Anyone recognize this musician?
« on: October 14, 2017, 07:41:33 AM »
A friend was going through old family photos and found this.  She's trying to identify who this might be. This is from a trip her maternal grandparents took to the Ozarks in 1948.  Probably just another unidentified musician - but thought I give it a shot.  It's a nice picture.

It is a nice picture, isn't it?  I don't recognize the musician, John, but if the picture is from '48 or earlier he looks as though he was born in the nineteenth century, maybe a contemporary of Henry Thomas or Gus Cannon.
All best,
Johnm

Yes, and it looks like a porter's hat he's got on the stool, so maybe a pullman porter.

Daddy Stovepipe perhaps? The faces really don't match up, but the Hats and guitars from earlier photos do.

Of course!   :P

He's got his hat out, taking tips.  Where is he?, it doesn't look like the train. But I think it is his 'corner' - look at all the notes on the wall, I think those must be fans writing notes to him.  I'm guessing the pipe behind him is a hot water heating or a steam heating pipe.
