Mississippi John Hurt page
« on: October 25, 2010, 07:40:35 AM »
Though I know we have a reference to the Mississippi John Hurt Museum somewhere, I don't recall whether the page of lyrics transcriptions hosted there has been mentioned. I came across it last night, so here it is:

http://www.msjohnhurtmuseum.com/kenlyrics.html

I haven't checked it for accuracy or anything, but there is a lot there, so a good start for anyone looking for lyrics.

I'll just add that adding the letter "l" to uncle bud's link will get you there:

Cheers

Mississippi John Hurt had a near-perfect style of playing and singing. Like Lead Belly, Blind Willie McTell, Henry Thomas, and a few others, he not only performed blues music, but songs that came from a generation or two before blues music. That's one of the reasons his music is  transporting. He also has this soothing effect on listeners, regardless of whether or not they're into blues. When I listen to Hurt, everything seems alright with the world.

A few weeks ago I gathered all of my research on Mississippi John Hurt -- including materials from interviews with Stefan Grossman and Rory Block, who both knew him -- and wrote an article for my Archive.
