He and Elizabeth Cotten developed a good friendship. He liked her music, too. He told me earlier that if he were to start playing all over again, he would want to play guitar like Mississippi John Hurt - Mike Seeger recalling his interviews with Dock Boggs
Steve Earle fans might want to skip this. Up until today I just plain assumed SE had at least half a clue. In this piece he pretty much torpedoes that notion. Whoops.
Well, in his defense, if you read past the crap he's peddling about RJ, he's going through a divorce. While I've never had that experience myself, I've babysat several friends and one brother through it, and I don't wish it on anyone, even my ex-CEO. All of the folks I knew who went through it had at least one significant period where they weren't thinking clearly at all. I'm glad none of them gave interviews that will be preserved for posterity.
Kokomo, good point. O'Muck, very possibly. Context is everything. For the record, I have a lot of his records and he puts on a great live show, I've been to several and hope to go to more in future. He's entitled to his opinion but still... wow.
On his eighth marriage and I'm sure that, at no time whatsoever, has he ever said "Maybe it's me".
Why, oh why, are so many old Hippie, ex-addicts, pontificating loudmouths, who don't know what the f**k they're talking about, but run their mouths constantly, anyway. I just don't get it
Stuart, I'm not certain I agree. After all, he plays guitar, not drums.
Mike, you raise a fair point. But all this crap about RJ being the source of all that came after isn't unique to Earle. I've read it all before, and I'm sure I'll read it again. I even read it before there was an internet, but now that there is one, it has become authoritative. No matter how many times it gets debunked it'll come back--what does Paul Krugman call them, zombie ideas?
No Phil, Eric did not start The Blues, I think he did however start Rock Against Racism ( though he didn`t mean to) Steve E. might start something he didn`t mean to if he carries on with interviews like this PT
HA! (there's more 'HA's to go there, but I find it unnecessary to make an essay out of two letters) This is a most enjoyable article. Myself and the only other blues fan I know in person have had quite a laugh at this. Thanks for sharing. This almost seems like an article from "The Onion" full of inside jokes only pre-war blues fans will get. But I agree, later on is rather interesting.

Confident that I'm probably almost definitely the youngest record label owner in my street
