I've always thought it exquisitely ironinc a certain German dictator blew his brains out on Gary's birthday in 1945. Maybe it's just me.

O'Muck, Frankie, have a great time tonight, I wish I could be there with you.  Please give my love to Andy, and everyone else there.

It was a great night - what a treat to hear such moving performances from Andy and O'muck...  to hear Allan Evans talk about his experience meeting and taking lessons from Rev. Davis was priceless.  And great to connect up with uncle bud!  More later when I'm less whupped...

Here's my take on the evening -

Pat played a short, sweet set - stand outs were "Out On The Ocean Sailing" and "Blow Gabriel".  Allan Evans was there and played a few of Rev. Davis rags.  Interviewed by Pat, he had a lot to say about his relationship with Davis that was a pleasure to hear.  Allan had a way of making his experience palpable to the listeners there that was quite moving.

O'muck and Andy both played like the champs they are - O'muck's "Table in Heaven" and Andy's "I Will Do My last Singing" are both tied for greatest performance of the night in my mind.  Each of them has obviously come away from their experience with Rev. Davis with some piece of him embedded in their playing.  Each are also too much their own man, musically, to be defined even by as powerful an experience as it was to have had Rev. Davis as a teacher during their formative years.  What a pleasure to have them share it on the stage.

As the lone "grandson,"  I was happy to be able to share what I could with such an interested and welcoming audience.  Cheers to all the performers and to Jalopy for hosting the night!
