Arthur Petties, Freddie Spruell, Romeo Nelson, Doug Suggs -- these are only a few of the blues singers known on record and in discographies to blues enthusiasts, whose rediscovery has not been followed by recording sessions, for they have forgotten all they knew, and hear with disbelief the records they made as young men. - "The Future of the Blues", Blues Off the Record, Paul Oliver

Hi all,
This came up in my youtube feed, and I thought it was beautiful. Tuning one of these must really be painstaking.
All best,
Johnm

More in depth info on the Glass Armonica, interview and demo by the same player as above.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear of Peter's death.  I never met him, though we were both in New Paltz NY at around the same time.  But we corresponded a lot back when he was active on Weenie Campbell, and he was kind enough to send me the occasional CD of odds and ends.  I've been wondering what ever happened to him.  I'll miss you, Peter.

Guido van Rijn is very productive at the moment. After publishing the Walter Davis book last December a Leroy Carr book is coming out next month.

Tangentially Mack McCormick claimed to have a lot of findings to share about Henry Thomas, has any of it come to light as of yet or no?

I have a scan of Mack's notes to the Herwin LP. The PDF file is too large (1.98 MB) to post here, but if you don't have them, send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send them as an attachment.

It's always a treat to watch and listen to Muireann sing and play. She's quite talented. And I enjoyed reading the exchange between her and Erin Harpe below in the comments section. Hopefully at some point she'll cut an album's worth of duets with her father like Erin did with Neil.

Even if that lick at 2.50 was a mistake (not sure) it's still exceptional in so many ways.

Like I said in the first post of this topic, McCormick had at least one unpublished photo of Robert Johnson (Peter Guralnick saw it).
Taken on the same day where Robert wears the pinstripe suit. It was or is hidden in a safe in Mexico. We'll see if it's in the book.

But great this is finally coming out either way.

This book came out three years ago but I don't know if it contains new information on Henry Thomas.

R.I.P. to a great and important blues producer, researcher and promoter making wonderful blues music available on several cltassic albums with artists that might not had been able to get their music out at this time in the 70's.
