Dave Van Ronk plays an amazing arrangement of Josh White's "Jelly Jelly" on his last CD: The Tin Pan Bended and the Story Ended." Does anyone know the chord changes and/or fingerings for this arrangement? Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music or tab? It's classic jazzy blues and I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
Thanks John! I ordered the two Van Ronk audio lessons/songbooks from Stephan Grossman's Workshop to get a feel for his arrangements. I think SPortin Life Blues has some similarity, but I look forward to hearing what your friend suggests. Thanks, Marc
I spoke with my buddy,he played the song for me and is going to tab it. He'll be on the road for a couple weeks but will get it to me when he returns and I'll pass it on to you ( I'll post it in case anyone else has intrest in it).
Thanks! That's the news I was hoping for. This site is awesome. You ask a questions; you get a response; people share knowledge. I should have joined the site a long time ago. I look forward to reading the tab when it comes. Marc
I WOULD LOVE A TAB AND LYRICS OF THIS ARRANGEMENT, oops caps down, oh well.....anyway, would love it, so please do add an mp3 and a copy of the tab for us to look over and learn from. Our fellow Weenie, John Cowan, waxwing, plays a sweet and poignant version of Sporting Life Blues. I love it every time he plays it. Good stuff, guys...

Do good, be nice, eat well, smile, treat the ladies well, and ignore all news reports--which can't be believed anyway,
I realize this is an old thread, but I've been enjoying Ronk's arrangement of this lately just as much as the original poster was in 2006. I figured the entire song out, but I've only tabbed a portion of it. The performance I based the tab around is from the Dave Van Ronk DVD, Live at the Bottom Line. The performance is from June 2001. The performance from the album mentioned above (The Tin Pan Bended....) is from October 2001, I believe. The earlier performance is superior in my opinion.
Welcome to Weenie Campbell simplelines, and thanks for contributing right out of the gate. I have the D.V.R. CD in question, had not picked up on the song but will now bend my ear in that direction.
