Yes, that's the lot of many a gifted sideman. Their peers hold them in the highest regard, while the public seldom hears of them.

Some just don't crave stardom and all the baggage that comes with it I guess. I can totally understand that.

RobBob:
Yes he has played on a great number of recordings like so many A list folks who never got full acknowledgement of their work.  Not a bad gig doing session work but it doesn't give you name recognition.

Anyone remember Area Code 615? That as close as many got to fame.
