It Won't Be Long Now
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:10:44 PM »
Hi:

Here's "It Won't Be Long Now", (Frank Stokes from 1928) one of the first lyrics I asked Weenies to help me out with about 4 years ago. Again in C position, standard Tuning.

After listening to this, I tried capoing up 2 semi-tones and then singing  it an octave lower. I think it sounds better.

This is a fun one to play. Again I play it at too quick a tempo.

Again played with the Gibson L-00. comments and criticism most welcomed.

Thanks,
Alex

The vocal sounds absolutely fine at this pitch.  Very nice singing.

That's really a nice job, Alex.  I like all the variations you play on the guitar.  It sounds like you've lived with it for a while and your singing is strong and rhythmic.
Al best,

Geez, thanks guys.

I'm still not quitting my day job. But I do love playing Frank Stokes tunes.

Thanks again,
Alex

Nice one, sounding very Stokesy there pardner. You should trim it back to 3 minutes though, you'd never get all that on a wax cylinder. Merchandising idea for Weenie Campbell: A recording light that turns red when the time's running out, like they had back in the day.

The vocals are great, you could get even a little more out there in places. When you're punching it there's some vibrato starting to happen that really lifts the vocal and it sounds uncannily like Frank Stokes, vibrato king.
