A star-studded group of acoustic blues musicians are teaming up to help two beloved bluesmen, Paul Geremia and (Juke Joint) Johnny Harper, both of whom have been battling serious health challenges in recent months. Most of you here in Weenieland know who Paul Geremia is, but maybe not Johnny Harper. Here's some info:
PAUL GEREMIA is a master of the country blues whose admirers include Bonnie Raitt and John Hammond. For nearly fifty years he has survived solely by the fruit of his musical labors, performing in every capacity from street singing to club and concert performances throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Acoustic Guitar magazine called him ?one of the best country blues fingerpickers ever.? He has recorded eleven superb albums, two of which were nominated for W.C. Handy awards. Thanks to his love for the humor in the music, as well as the drama, he has helped keep traditional blues fresh and alive. Paul Geremia stands firmly in the company of the very blues and country legends who inspired and influenced him over the past four decades. Last summer, Paul suffered several strokes and faces a long recovery. He's living in Rhode Island with a friend; funds raised will go towards caregiver and other medical expenses.
JOHNNY HARPER is a Bay Area singer, songwriter, guitarist, teacher, bandleader, producer, and a born storyteller. Over the past 30 years, he?s led a series of hard-rocking rootsy dance bands from Hot Links (which focused on New Orleans R&B) to his current combo, Johnny Harper's Carnival (which spotlights memorable originals along with songs by Woody Guthrie, The Band and others.) Johnny has toured as lead guitarist with Maria Muldaur?s band, and backed legendary blues and jazz singer Barbara Dane. He has performed with Louisiana legends like Katie Webster, Michael Doucet, and Ernie K-Doe. Last October, Johnny had a pulmonary embolism and was in a coma for several weeks. He's recovering but it will be awhile before he is totally up to speed.
