Cubans trace roots to remote Sierra Leone village
« on: April 21, 2014, 05:20:50 AM »
I found this article, about a small Afro-Cuban community finding their roots in a remote village in Sierra Leone, rather fascinating. Perhaps some of you will enjoy it as well.

Thanks for that, Pan. Very interesting article. Must be quite a mindtrip for those involved.

Very interesting. I am sure that with today's DNA technology, more African people in the Americas could trace their roots.

Thanks so much for posting this.  What Alfredo Duquesne says at the end of the article

'This is it. I've come back,'" and describing himself as "at peace" and "At last I know where I come from",  "I'm not a stranger any more."

just about says it all. Brilliant article.

Very interesting, reminds me of the Gullah who have lived of the coast of S. Carolina for 300 years.
