My group of people - Joe Turner, King Curtis, Mickey Baker - used to laugh at all the country blues singers who were backwards musically. John Lee Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins sang out of meter - we couldn't respect them - Doc Pomus, quoted in How The Beatles Destroyed Rock 'N' Roll by Elijah Wald

Acoustic blues sets from Bear Family around the corner
« on: April 02, 2015, 05:39:52 PM »
Hello friend,
I had heard news that it was in the planning, & it looks as if it will be out by the end of the month. Not a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect on these. But the track listing does look pretty strong. (I'm really intrigued by volume 2.)  I have a couple of the electric volumes, & they are excellently produced & packaged.

Man, I wish Bear Family would do some exhaustive artist boxed sets for blues like they've done for country and early rock 'n' roll.  Their Carter Family, Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins sets are the greatest!
