Just got a new Larrivee parlor and a new camera all in the same day!! Learned Furry's "Money Green" from Master Miller's DVD. Simplified the right hand a bit and added the bottleneck.
Charley Patton's "Goin' Home" (and/or the latter half of "Prayer of Death: Part 1"). This is one of those songs that I could listen to over and over again. I think Charley did it in Spanish, but I had better luck with Vastapol @ C.
Both of these sound really good. Thoroughly enjoyed both. I like your take on Turn Your Money Green. Occasionally when I listen to this song (Furry's version), I think, "it's really quite repetitive" and not necessarily in a good way. Your approach works nicely in that respect, since it changes things up a bit.
I've been foolin' with Goin' Home as well, though in Spanish. It works nicely in Vestapol as well, as you demonstrate. My only comment about this one is that you're a good singer and are singing at the lower half of your range here I would bet. I'm wondering whether bringing this up to open D (or higher) might give your vocal some more power, to add to the expressiveness that's already there.

Sounds great. A tip however. Do not film with a backlight. You have a window in the background and that will underexpose the subject, in this case you and your fine guitars. Always make sure the light is behind the camera not the focus of it.
What camera are you using? It sounds and looks good.
Much thanks folks! Andrew-You could be right about the key. I'm still learning how to use my voice properly. But everytime I've tried to sing this in D, I can't hit the "right" notes in the last line when the slide gets up around the 7th fret. "Well, I'll MEET you on that..." Maybe I'm just not workin' the pipes right, but that's been my experience so far. I'll try again and see what I come up with.
And this crappy one: [yt=425,350]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CLcLcj0snwA&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CLcLcj0snwA&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/yt]
[Finally got the embed thing to work...]
The casio had the best audio in my price range. I had some bestbuy store credit from a crappy mp3 player I returned, so why not? $143-sale price I'm happy with it. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like it to and it has to be removed from the camera to charge it, but I'll just buy another battery or two.
Good point about the lighting. I just moved into a tiny one room cottage (11x 17), so my filming location options are somewhat limited. Plus I'm still slackin' on things like buyin' curtains and gettin' the overhead light fixed. I'll see what else I can come up with in the meantime...
Take care,
Mike
p.s. Here's a couple lower quality clips of the same tunes. "Money Green" is on a cheap Oahu parlor that I'll be dumping soon now that the Larrivee's here.

This does sound really nice, brosna, and the addition of the slide is a real natural touch. I like the way that you're still able to play the piece as it's normally heard but can add the slide to your taste. Your time sounds good and I like your singing, especially that third verse. Nice job! All best, Johnm

I always value words of praise from any player... But... Now... I am beside myself...
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind words, Mr. Miller. I am so flattered that you even took the time to listen...
Thank you so much for providing such excellent instruction on your DVD. I simplified the bass a bit to straight alternation cuz I just couldn't get it right when I tried to play like you and Furry. But I guess it works like this...
You have made my day, sir.
Umm... Wow...
Mike
P.S. I DO sincerely appreciate any and all feedback from EVERYONE!! (Much thanks to you too, RJ!!!) But... Y'know... He's JOHN MILLER!!!! Wow...
I like that Larriv?e Parlor sound. My own rosewood Larri Parlor is currently with my luthier friend (rick218 of the Weenie) who is reducing some of the bulk on the top bracing. I took this step after reading on the Larriv?e Forum about several people doing the same thing. I feel if the heavy, square-shaped braces are given a more tapered profile, the guitar will respond a lot better. Most good acoustics respond like a drum if you gently tap the top, but my Larri Parlor (whilst a great guitar that I really like) is relatively unresponsive. Hopefully this will improve the situation.
