Put that pick down. You think I'm scolding you? You a grown man, Hubert - listen to me!" I went home, man. I went to my basement. And I'm going to tell you something... I would also like to find out or rather, work on the exact lyrics of Southern Rag....needless to say, I?m having huge problems with that Georgia Sea Islands dialect he mocks there. I?ve found "the internet" not of help here as far as the Southern Rag lyrics are concerned (people pay attention far more to the brilliant guitar playing, me included), so I start with nothing here and hope you can help :D

Southern Rag

Now we goin?do that ol? Southern Rag.
We out then on that cotton field
With them people find all their rice ?tween sugar cane   [and sweet?]
And cheese and so called goomb?.  [?]

Eh, man, I want a match from you to light my pipe, yeah.

Goin? on, geechie!
I ain?t startin??bout, you know I know you had to startin? me now.   [???]
When you gettin? my rice so I?d bet you startin? me then, did you say that?  [???]

Let me better begin the row now.
I?ll show her how to pick this cotton
And you know to dig potatoe, you?s the one.
I can  pick mo? raw sugar cane than you can pick in ten years.

Now we gon? do the dance now they call the geechie dance.

I?m gonn? give you some music they call the geechie music now.

That my girl, bid her away from you.
Play ?em!
Cause I?m goin? go on the reckless and will take up anyway up the loose   [???]

You better get that thing .
Fix this like this now
?Cause I?m ?on?stop.

Any lines I didn't type I think you have right:

Now we goin in the old country rock,
First thing we do, swing your partner

Promenade,
See-saw to the right

Swing that girl over there with that blue dress on and
Bring her right on back to me.

For Southern Rag -- again, lines I didn't type I think you have right:

Now we goin? on that ol? Southern Rag.
Way out there on that cotton field
Where them people plant all that rice with sugar cane
And peas and so forth grow

Go on old Geechie
I ain't studyin' 'bout you, no I know you here to study me now
Soon as you get my rice so I bet you can study me then, bet you that

Just meet me at the end of the row now,
I'll show you how if I pick this cotton
Either dig potato either one
I strip more raw sugar cane than you can strip in ten years.

That my girl, get away from here,
[he's not saying play 'em, but I'm not entirely sure what]
'Cause I'm gonna grab 'em directly and gon' shake 'em every way but loose

Fixed like this now
'Cause I'm gon' stop.

I don't think it's "peas" here. I hear a 'ch-' at the beginning of the word and two syllables.

Yeah, I had "cheese" at that place first but that didn?t seem to make ?much sense...

"Which peas" maybe?!

"Which peas" maybe?!
I hear peas. Peas is colloquial for dried beans in some cultures - Jamaica for one, maybe in Georgia as well?

As far as the lyric
"That my girl, get away from here,
Play ?em! [???]"

I hear "That my gal, get away from him, ... them"
I have always assumed that Blake made an error - he wants to say "her", as in
"Thats my girl, get away from her", and then he corrects to "them", which is also an error given the context.
Or, he meant to say
Those my girl(s), get away from them.

West Coast Blues (3056-2)

Now we goin in the old country rock,
First thing we do, swing your partner

Promenade
See-saw to the right

Bring that girl over there with that blue dress on and
Bring her right on back to me.
She stops this funny foolin?
'Cause it's done got sweet to me, haha.

Like to made me whoop.
Bring that girl right on.

Play that thing, boy.

Now people: If you ever heard somethin' to make you feel good
You?ll hear somethin' in a few minutes but not now.

Now here?s someone who wanna make you feel good.

He had recorded it already a few weeks before this, in front of the accoustic horn, different in many guitar parts and to a certain extent more adventorous. A very interesting performance when compared to the much better known electrical re-recording 3056-1. I also thought the lyrics would have been easier with all that work already done, yet I?m stuck at many lines here again, in spite of having listened to this particular version many many dozens of times as well...

West Coast Blues (2669-3)

Now we goin in this old country rock,
I know half will bother [to] hear this kind of music and know just what I mean.

First little thing: Swing your partner.
Promenade.

Now swing that girl over there with that blue dress on
And bring her right on about back to me.

That?s where he?s good at.

This so thing right on to the right.   [???]

That?ll be good.

Just stop the funny foolin? because
It's done got sweet to me.
Haha.
Like to made me whoop.  [Is that to make to whoop?]

Now people, it?s like this: If you ever heard a little somethin' to hurt your feelings you won?t hear something right now, in a few minutes, not now.

... listen to that... [???]

Now here?s somethin' will make you feel good.

Now I know it?s good to you ?cause it?s done got good to me.

Now hear ... this afternoon takin? it  [???]

Allright now.
Bring that girl over there back to me again.
Just promenade ?cause I?m ?on? give you  the last drop, just like Maxwell House Coffee, yes.

Now here?s a little old somethin? in here again will make you feel good.  [lol]

Now just play that thing.

Bring it up in a few more seconds now to get it fixed.

You better get it fixed twice as good
So  ....   there.   [???]

I got my Blues Images calendar today and have been listening over and over again to Miss Emma Liza this evening and thought I might as well transcribe it. What a great song; I wish Blake had recorded a lot more like this.

The record is pretty whupped, but I think I pretty much have it except for one word which sounds like "breeds" or "breeze" but I don't think is either. The first line of each section I'm also not 100% sure of; originally I had: "Who's got that loveliness?"

Miss Emma Liza

Who brought that lovely miss?
Who mean "no" when she say "yes"?
But that sweet, Miss Emma Liza, Miss Emma Lize

Who's that beyond the door,
All the [???] are looking for?
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize.

Who do go to parties, and stays until four,
And who always tell you "Good night - hee hee hee" at the door,
Who's the one still chewing gum?
Nice and pretty but not so dumb,
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize.

Who is brought that lovely miss?
Who mean "no" when she say "yes"?
But that sweet, Miss Emma Liza, oh Miss Emma Lize

Who's the one beyond the door
All them [???] are looking so for
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize

I say who do go to parties, and stays until four,
And who always tell you "Mmmm-mmmm hee hee hee" at the door,
Who's the one still chewing gum?
Nice and pretty but not so dumb,
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize

scat chorus

Who's that brought that lovely miss?
Who mean "no" when she say "yes"?
But that sweet, Miss Emma Liza, Miss Emma Lize

Who's the one beyond the door
All the [???] are looking so for
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize

Who do go to parties, and stays until four,
And who always tell you "Hmm-mmm hee hee hee" at the door,
Who's the one still chewing gum?
Nice and pretty but not so dumb,
But that sweet Miss Emma Lize.
