He [Ted Bogan] was playing with picks that you put on your fingers and I didn't like that as an accompaniment, so I made him throw them away and I told him I would play the lead and he would play the accompaniment - Carl Martin on hooking up with Ted Bogan (Blues & Rhythm #218 Stompin' In Knox County)

I think he's singing this in the line with the ?

You go to jail, I’ll go your bond, you get time, here(s) what I would do, stay outside and wait for you, you go

Hi Blues Vintage,
I think the first line of the second verse is:

You get the FARES, we go TO show, you bet the horses, I'LL pick up the dough

Hi John,

It means that she paid for the show (whatever show that may be) and Burnside paid for the gambling at the race track?
Burnside will stay with her no matter what she'll do or what happens.

Burnside sang "Goin' to Memphis, see the Worldly Fair" in "Poor Black Mattie".
So that's why I thought "fairs" was right. See the show at the "fair".

Hi Blues Vintage,
If it was referring to a fair, it would not be in the plural. He wants the other person to treat him, play the horses and then allow him to pick up the money. Sounds like a great deal--for Burnside!

Off course, he walks away with the profits. But maybe lose it later to get her out of jail!
