Everybody singin' like somebody else's body. And that's pretty spooky if you think about it. I like the shows where the guy... he's like 18 years and white and he's comin' up on stage before a 90 years old bluesman [pantomimes lurching onto stage, plays really old sounding blues, wails incomprehensibly]... And then the 90 years old bluesman comes on and says, 'OK man, whassup?' Everythin's gotten like kinda spaced if you think about it... - Jerry Ricks, Port Townsend 97

Big Bil Broonzy "Black Brown and White"
« on: April 16, 2016, 04:50:52 AM »
Hi guys,
any of you has any discographical information about Big Bill Broonzy's "Black Brown and White"?
Up until now I've found those three versions (I'll name them A, B and C):

A) slow version

B) with live audience

C) faster version

I've found some useful infos here http://www.culturalequity.org/alanlomax/ce_alanlomax_profile_broonzy.php and some youtube videos provide some notes, but not detailed as I would (and usually I don't blindly rely on the notes provided with youtube videos).

Could you help me with the recording details of these versions and eventually point me to others I'm just not aware of?

Thanks a lot.

For what it's worth a couple of decades back I produced such a list for some purpose or another. I thought it was for Weenie but couldn't locate it. However here's the list I compiled - extremely out of date now but here it is. There's probably umpteen others now on CD which may be retitled . Good luck and have fun.

Paris Sept 1951 (Vogue 134 (78rpm)
Paris 7 Feb 1952 (Vogue LP 272)
Antwerp 29 March 1952 (in concert)
Copenhagen 4 May 1956 (Storyville LP 114)
Chicago 14 Nov 1956 (Folkways LP 3586 - in interview with Studs Terkel)

Thank you, Bunker, for the information! It is a good starting point to understand which version was played when.
