Yes, it's true 'we' are going to do it again and with a little forward planning have just finished updating the website, so please take a look and get those sea-view hotel room bookings rolling in :)

It may seem a little early to be pushing this event but I have to sort the hotel, put a hold on some rooms and make sure we can have the function room before it gets booked for a wedding...! The other point is, in these days of internet travel bookings the earlier you book your flights the cheaper they are likely to be :o

As for the event itself, I think the format will be much the same as last April and for those of you that came over I would like to see you all here again... and, if you have any (polite) suggestions or ideas please, please do let me know.

so I can keep a vague check on what's happening!

Finally................ I know it's a long way from the US, but if anybody felt the call we would be more than delighted to see you, just as Waxy made the trip last time.

Now then NS, you have no choice :-X you must lay down the ground rules that musac and going off to play with weenies comes first :o Although speaking from experience, my kids never slept from week two onwards and with permanent knackerness setting in my giging rapidly went from four nights a week to zero.... so if you have her permission now, get that weekend pass in writing - you'll need it ;D

I'd love to pop over :) ..I'll have to play it by ear as there have been rumblings by our weekly dance group (4 couples get together once a week to dance some swing) about going to Festival International de Louisiane (http://www.festivalinternational.com/site41.php), the hometown of one of our group, the weekend after -- but who knows, maybe I can steer them all toward Guernsey. :)

However, on reflection (get it?) I didn't think it would matter too much since the rose tinted specs that we all use on these ocassions have a built in corrective factor, or possibly it's the alcohol.

When we checked into our seaview room Gre exclaimed, "Well you didn't tell me it would be like this." I think she spent several hours just staring out at Cobo Bay from our balcony.

Well, April is a ways off and who knows, plans could change.

I've just escaped the tree decorating duties to book my flights and hotel. Feels better already. But just a thought, has anyone any ideas on workshop topics? All suggestions gratefully received. It could be a particular song. Or a particular style (like last year). I reckoned that if I asked now, then there'd be a few suggestions between now and April, and I'd be bound to be able to do at least something with one of them! Fingers crossed. Nothing too hard now!

It seems there is some confusion as to the date of the great event, the hotel saying one thing and those who have booked telling me another!!!!

However, I have today been to the hotel and can confirm positively that it is booked for the weekend of 11-12-13 April which I hope coincides with the dates used by those who have booked thus far!

Should you find any referneces to the 18-19 April they are incorrect.

I appreciate the support and realise that this is never going to be a high turnout event so that with even, say 10-12 participants it would work happily... so, sadly at this rate I can't honestly see it continuing after this year and it looks as though a rethink of the program may be called for.

My real problem is the hotel as they were hanging onto ten rooms for me and the function room for 2 nights, knowing they had turned down a wedding party for us.....

Any brainwaves or suggestions (polite) do let me know.

The consensus seemed to be smaller numbers or not you all want to seem to do it again next year so if the hotel will do it again then, I think we might have to.

I have to say having the communal meal and saying it felt a little like a Saga outing >:( and then finding the dining room being taken over by the enormous 80th birthday party of which, as (our grandchild with wet shoes) NatterJack rightly said. at least fifteeen of 'em were eligible for the cake - that made some of us feel younger ;)

I'll sort out some of the diy recordings and post a few snippets over the next week.

NJ are you doing the pics at some stage, did you get an crab pics as well?

I am (moderately) famous in my home town for my Hawaiian shirts. They mostly come from charity shops and tend to be brand new. I have a theory that people are bought them as presents and don't dare wear them, so I reap the benefits. After many years, I have now reached the stage that I don't buy them if they are tame. They have to be really outrageous/hideous/etc. before I'll consider handing over my 3 quid.

I only wear them in the summer when it's warm enough, as I'm a tough northener who "has gone soft" since moving south many years ago. Maybe one day I'll make it to Guernsey and you can have the pleasure of seeing some of them.

Now what I propose is I post the odd clip as a sample which will save space here and if you want more then pm me and I'll send the whole file. All the recordings require the banter and stuff to be trimmed off which I'll try and finish tonight\tomorrow ready for emailing.

Meantime here is the first of the clips featuring that aforsaid gentleman from McScotland and yours truely proving that a valuable period National can also double as washboard if you don't loose the rhythm as yer fingerpicks start to fall off.... carefull listeners will discerne a very, very naughty word as the metalpick finally falls off...... who said we didn't have fun and look what the rest of you werte missing :-X

I'll try and post another clip or two later on tonight.
