Hi all,
I wanted to let you know about a new recording released by my friend Orville Johnson, "Orville Johnson and his Ampliphonic Guitar--Duets". The release features Orville playing his dobro in duets with a variety of different musicians in a program that covers a lot of ground stylistically. Here is the program, along with Orville's duet partners:
1) Blue Finger--Orville and John Knowles, guitar
2) Mongrel's Dream--Orville and Mark Graham, harmonica
3) Goodbye Pork Pie Hat--Orville and Rene Worst, bass
4) Foggy Mountain Rock--Orville and Danny Barnes, banjo
5) Marie--Orville and John Knowles, guitar
6) Mean Old World--Orville and Woody Mann, guitar
7) Oh My Joy--Orville and Patrice Haan, harp
8 ) Jitterbug Waltz--Orville and Make Dowling, guitar
9) Lakes of Pontchartrain--Orville and John Miller, guitar
10) Tex-Mex Shindig--Orvile and Sally Van Meter, dobro
11) Naima--Orville and Susan Pascal, vibraphone
12) Elwa Shuffle, Orville and Daric Campbell, Dan Tyack, dobro, and John Miller, guitar
All of the selections are instrumentals, with no vocals. If you are a fan of great slide playing, of whatever stripe, you won't want to miss this recording. Orville's playing throughout the program is every bit as exciting and inventive as we've come to expect from him over the years, and his duet partners bring a lot to the table as well--you'll probably recognize many of the names, and you're in for pleasant surprises with the unfamiliar names. To listen to the tunes, purchase the recording as a download or purchase a physical disc, go to: https://orvillejohnson.bandcamp.com/album/orville-johnson-and-his-ampliphonic-guitar-duets .
All best,
Johnm
