Hi all, I can't speak to staffing in the general sense for Port Townsend in 2011, but I have been asked to teach at next summer's session and will be back. It will be great to see some of you I've missed the past couple of years and figuring out new places to go with regards to the teaching and curriculum. All best, Johnm
Great, it will be good to have you back at Centrum once again, you were missed! I know that I and many others have been requesting your return in the work shop feedback section. Maybe they really do read them... Can hardly wait to see what you come up with this year. Have a good holiday season and see you next August, if not before.
Thanks for the good words, guys. If you check periodically at www.centrum.org, Eric, they will be posting information with regards to staffing, dates, enrollment and all else. Peter McCracken generally posts here when the staff is announced, too. I hope you can make it this year, and I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new folks, too. All best, Johnm
I will be at Guitar Intensives in Bar Harbor again, O'Muck, the week following Port Townsend. I'm looking forward to that, had a great time last summer and that is a beautiful part of the world. You make a good point re EBA, blueshome, it is a shame that two out of the three main Country Blues week-long programs have met simultaneously the past couple of summers. It's not an ideal situation for either the attendees of these events or the faculty, since they're put in an either/or situation for Port Townsend and EBA Bluesweek. I hope that these events will be able to operate on separate weeks after 2011. It's good in the sense that whichever one you end up attending is a good time. All best, Johnm
Sorry I'm late with this, but we still don't quite have a complete staff for 2011. Missing a harper and maybe a guitar picker. But, here's who has committed:
On guitar, Orville Johnson (slide), John Miller (by the good graces of Michael Roach), Guy Davis, Otis Taylor, Jeff Scott, Nat Reese (traveling with Robert Fillipi), Cheick Hamala Diabate, Mark Puryear, Pura Fe (lap slide), Sule Greg Wilson (banjo, percussion, dance).
Sunpie Barnes on accordion; killer piano staff of Ann Rabson, Erwin Helfer, and Judy LaPrade.
Lauren Sheehan will teach mandolin, and the mighty Washboard Chaz Leary returns.
Jay Summerour, Phil Wiggins, and one more teaching harmonica.
The Ebony Hillbillies - Rique (fiddle), Norris - (banjo), Salty (bass), Newman Baker (percussion), and Gloria Gassaway will lead the vocal track.
Vera long will again lead the gospel choir.
We?ll miss some folks this year; it?s a difficult thing for sure, but we can?t have everything want, as it turns out.
Yes, Suzy, you'll be missed. Have a blast running Fiddle Tunes. One day when I'm a gentleman of leisure I hope to make it to that one.
Peter, if you're looking to fill a guitar slot, might I suggest Lightnin' Wells. Worked his dang butt off for Centrum last year, as I recall. Knows one or two 'acoustic blues' numbers.
